Coverage Details:

  • Coverage begins prior to the start of the semester:
    • New Students聽鈥� Insurance coverage will begin on August 2 (Fall start only)
    • Returning Students聽鈥� Insurance coverage will begin on September 1 (Fall start only)
  • Insurance certificates will be emailed to students after the start of the semester:
    • Early October for Fall intake
    • Early February for Winter intake
    • Early June for Summer intake.

Important Notes:

  • Pre-Existing Conditions: There is a 90-day stability period. Any sickness, injury, or medical condition that was not stable in the 90 days prior to the effective date of the policy will not be covered.
  • Family Members:聽Family members are not automatically covered under the student鈥檚 health plan. All people in Canada require health insurance, and it is strongly suggested that students make health insurance arrangements for any accompanying family members as soon as possible. Students joined by parents, a spouse, or dependent children, have the choice to purchase the Explore Canada Plan directly from 厂迟耻诲测滨苍蝉耻谤别诲鈩� so long as the applicants are under the age of 70 and live at the same residential address as the student. The plan for family members is identical to the student plan, but the premium may be higher. Please visit to enrol your eligible family members.   • Emergency Medical Assistance: Using emergency services at the hospital for non-emergency or routine health issues may result in your claim being denied Should this happen, you will be solely responsible for paying the hospital, which may be very expensive. In the case of a medical emergency where you do require emergency care at the hospital, it is the student鈥檚 responsibility to ensure that StudyInsured Assistance is contacted by them or someone on their behalf within 48 hours regarding any emergency medical assistance.   • Pre-Approval Requirements – Call 1.866.883.9787 and have your policy number ready. 厂迟耻诲测滨苍蝉耻谤别诲鈩� Assistance must approve in advance any surgery, invasive procedure, major diagnostic testing or major medical treatments, or medical treatment outside of Canada before any expenses are incurred.
  • Major Diagnostic Testing means diagnoses which require magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cardiac catheterization, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scans, sonograms or ultrasounds and/or biopsies.

In the event you withdraw from the college or transfer to another institution, your insurance coverage will automatically be canceled.

If a student makes any claim under the insurance plan while enroled, they are not eligible for a refund.

 

Refund Criteria

A full refund ($740) is granted if the withdrawal request is submitted before or within the first 10 days of the first semester and the student did not use聽(make a claim) the insurance plan during this period.

After the first 10 days of the first semester, a pro-rated refund is available if no claims were made under the insurance plan. The refund amount will be the annual premium ($740) 鈥� the daily rate ($2.10)* the number of total insured days.

To be eligible for a refund, students must provide the following documents:

  • Official Withdrawal Requests (Must include the student鈥檚聽full name聽and聽student ID)
  • Health Insurance Wallet Card or Insurance Policy Number (Proof of enrolment in the insurance plan)
  • Canadian Address and Banking Information (Required for processing a cheque refund)

Once the withdrawal request and supporting documents are submitted it may take up to two weeks to process the withdrawal. Refunds may take聽up to eight weeks聽to be processed.

If the refund is not received within this timeframe, students should email聽wdrequest@northern.on.ca to check the status of their request.

 

Family Members & Dependents: This procedure excludes the insurance withdrawal/refund of the family members or their dependents. Students shall reach StudyInsured directly for their family member(s) or dependent(s)鈥� insurance refund.

Graduating students have 90 days after their insurance coverage expires to submit claims for any medical expenses incurred prior to the expiry date.
